What's New for the 2019 Ford Edge?
Now midway through its second production cycle, the Ford Edge-a midsize crossover SUV-is the recipient of a facelift, which includes refreshed front and rear styling. For this year, the ST replaces the Sports trim from previous years to become the top-level variant; the other trims still remain, in ascending order, the SE, SEL, and Titanium. If you go with any non-ST trim, you will get a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline 4-cylinder engine with 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The ST is powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Both engines have auto stop-start technology to eliminate idling, and they are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which includes a rotary gear shifter this model year. Front-wheel drive is standard on the SE, SEL, and Titanium, with the option of getting an all-wheel drivetrain instead. All-wheel drive is standard on the ST. Peak fuel economy, at 22/29 mpg, is achieved by getting a non-ST trim with front-wheel drive. As a five-seater, the Edge provides 113.9 cubic feet of passenger space. Standard cargo space is measured at 39.2 cubic feet, with the option of maximizing it to 73.4 cubic feet by folding down the rear seats. On the SEL, Ford upgrades the cloth seat trim, provides a leather-wrapped steering wheel and furnishes the front row with a 10-way power driver's seat and a 6-way power front-passenger seat. At the Titanium trim level, the Edge is upgraded with leather seat trim, front-seat heating ability, driver-seat memory, a rear-seat back release feature (EasyFold), and 10-way power on the front passenger seat. The ST stands out with Miko inserts in the leather seat trim and a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel with silver stitching and ST logo.
Overall, the 2019 Ford Edge has many more standard amenities than the model year that immediately preceded it. For comfort and convenience, the Edge starts with features such as cruise control, remote keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, intelligent access with push-button engine start, FordPass Connect for smartphone-based remote access, a Wi-Fi hotspot, the SYNC infotainment system, AM/FM radio, six-speaker audio, a smart-charging USB port, a trial SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, and eight cupholders. The SEL gets dual-zone automatic climate control, and the infotainment system is upgraded to SYNC 3.
The Titanium comes with an additional smart-charging USB port, two driver-configurable 4.2-inch LCD displays in the instrument cluster, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, and unique to the trim are a universal garage-door opener, wireless charging pad, and remote start. Standard safety features include eight airbags, an SOS post-crash alert system, front safety belt reminder technology (Belt-Minder), a rearview camera, post-collision braking, the AdvancTrac vehicle stability management system with roll stability and curve control, an anti-lock braking system with the four-wheel disc brakes, a blind spot information system with rear cross-traffic alert, a lane keeping system, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, MyKey for monitoring teen-driver habits, hill start assist, and a theft-deterrent system that includes the aforementioned remote keyless entry system and a keyless entry pad. The Titanium is the only trim with a perimeter alarm added on the theft-deterrent system.
